Paul (2011)
This Simon Pegg and Nick Frost written film also starring Seth Rogan as the voice of the wise cracking rude alien is a really great film I thought. When I first realized that Pegg and Frost were in it I immediately thought, I will be annoyed by their British accent and wont be able to enjoy the film. I guess they decided to speak in American terms (slang and such) because I understood everything they said. They didn't use british slang or references which was nice. England may not have been happy about this, but where are there 350 million people. Not England!
The acting was wonderful, the comedy was not over done with ridiculous references. Paul was really pretty funny, sarcastic and touching at times. They made you want to be friends with the characters. The actors that have supporting roles in it as well were nice to see. Two detectives (Bill Hader, from Superbad and Joe Lo Trulio from Reno 911) were hilarious and great additions. Jason Bateman plays the main govt agent seeking Paul, was very good in his, this is not funny, but funny style of acting. Other actors you will def recognize from recent films all make this film enjoyable.
I usually dont like writing reviews about what they actually do in the movie because well, I hate reading them when they are too descriptive. Almost so much that I dont need to see the film now I've read your review (EBERT!). Anyway you should see this film, do it!
Hangover II (2011)
Ah the Hangover II, finally out and about to give kids nightmares and us, in the drinking minority, a reason to have just one more shot. Yes, I went to the movies to see this film and there were kids there. Not like 13 and 14 year old kids (they were there too) but as young as 6. Wtf people!?! Really parents? With all the references to sex and drugs in this film, you actually thought it would be a good idea to bring them?
Yea I guess I would want my 6 year to find out what an uncircumsized shemale's penis looks like while im chomping down some popcorn and suckin down some pop, I mean what am I their parent or something. Oh wait I fucking am, and its my job to be a PARENT to them. Thats right, I almost forgot with all the shemale dicks flying around the room.
But other than 6 year olds growing up a little too fast. The movie was awesome! I know people were all like, blah blah its the same as the first. Well I loved the first, seen it at least twenty times bored jammin on the guitar. And the second I will see just as many times. Mr Chow and Alan are by far two of the funniest roles I've seen in awhile. Glad Mr. Chow got a must deserved bigger role this time. A few times I thought well this one is a little darker than the first, a little meaner in spirit. But screw it its the hangover they can do the same exact film thirty times for all I care. This combination of actors worked and will continue to work even with the third film. Great job guys. See it!
